Policy for The Opera Atelier, Inc. Students and Artists
ADMISSION PROCESS:
Students interested in attending The Opera Atelier programs, courses, lessons, workshops, and similar must:

-
Complete the Request for Admission Form.
-
Have the corresponding authorization from parents or guardians if the applicant is under 18.
-
Complete the audition and interview process successfully.
-
Read and sign the corresponding agreements and policies.
Admission is granted solely after an audition, aptitude test and interview. This initial contact session carries a non-refundable $50.00 fee. If the student is accepted and enrolls in a lesson cycle, this $50.00 fee is applied to the tuition. Applicants are required to come in person to The Opera Atelier studio for an audition and interview before admission is finalized. Acceptance is selective and it is based primarily on artistic aptitude. Admission is granted on a first-come, first-served basis to successful candidates who have completed all requirements, depending on space availability. The decision of the Board is final. Upon completion of all admission requirements, the faculty will review the information and inform the applicant if they have been accepted for enrollment. All applicants must complete and sign an Enrollment Agreement with our police, once accepted. If the student is less than 18 years old, a parent or guardian must also sign the Enrollment Agreement.

ENROLLMENT FEE: A non-refundable yearly enrollment fee of $50 will be required for all new and returning students.
SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships may be available when there are funds available in The Opera Atelier Scholarship Funds. Partial scholarships, based on a funding availability basis, are granted at the discretion of the Board and are based on talent, commitment and needs. Students will not be considered for scholarships at initial admission but only after a minimum of six months of study. To apply send us an e-mail to: info@theoperaatelier.com

LESSON FREQUENCY: A minimum of one lesson per week is required. For optimal progress results, a frequency of two or lessons a week is highly recommended, up to a maximum of three lessons, which is ideal. The frequency of the sessions varies from to one to three hour per week distributed into two or three sessions, according to needs and schedule possibilities.

ABSENCES AND MISSED LESSONS: Attendance is essential. The lesson time is reserved exclusively for the artist or student; therefore, the reserved regular schedule should be adhered to. Lessons do not need to be confirmed. The Opera Atelier does not provide refunds or credits for student absences. Absences due to extraordinary circumstances should be notified at least 24 hours in advance. Otherwise, the session will be forfeited. Exceptionally, missed lessons may be rescheduled only at the discretion of the teacher and according to the instructor’s scheduling possibilities. A pattern of missed lessons may be a cause for dismissal.

PUNCTUALITY: Lessons cannot be extended beyond the scheduled time. Please make every effort to be on time. Your punctuality is appreciated. Lesson time lost due to late arrivals will not be made up. Parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area.

HOMEWORK: Practice and homework are an essential element of musical education and training. Therefore a regular practice schedule is necessary to achieve the established goals. We encourage parents and guardians to support their children in maintaining a consistent and efficient practice schedule.

RECITALS: Students are afforded the opportunity to participate in recitals and performances of The Opera Atelier at theaters and recitals hall in Miami. These recitals are excellent opportunities for students to put into practice all that they have learned, to develop as performers and to come into contact with the audience.

PARTICIPATION IN EXTERNAL MUSICAL PROGRAMS: If the artist or student will be involved in any other program or performance activity, the instructor should be notified. The instructor will then be able to work with the student to help them succeed in the activities without harm to their vocal or playing mechanism and without compromising the technical and artistic direction of the work being carried out with The Opera Atelier. We take very seriously the health and wellbeing of the student artist.

WITHDRAWAL: Students may withdraw at the end of any cycle. Notice must be in writing at least two weeks prior to the end of the cycle.

CALENDAR: There are regular cycles that begin in Summer, Fall and Winter. Otherwise, registration is open all year long, according to availability. Preference will be given to returning students and to those who enroll for longer cycles. Students will be enrolled for the beginning of the next period, according to space availability.

LEARNING MATERIALS: Students are responsible for their assigned learning materials. Materials should be brought to all lessons.

PICTURES AND VIDEOS: The Opera Atelier may photograph/videotape students, lessons or events for archival purposes or as part of The Opera Atelier promotional and educational activities. By agreeing to this policy you are giving permission to TOA to use photographs/videos of your son(s)/daughter(s) lessons or performances. If you prefer to opt-out please contact TOA in writing. Students are allowed and encouraged to make only audio recordings of their sessions for study purposes.

COMMUNICATIONS: It is essential to keep communication channels flowing efficiently. Please acknowledge and respond to all communications in a timely fashion. We will replicate. Please address all email communications to info@theoperaatelier.com.
DRESS CODE: Please dress neatly and appropriately for lessons, rehearsals and performances. We prefer that in the studio no informal attire such as shorts, beach sandals or t-shirts be worn, especially since video recording for study and archival purposes takes place often. The Opera Atelier may photograph/videotape students, lessons or events for archival purposes or as part of The Opera Atelier. The dress code is an essential part of being an artist.
