Responsibilities

The intern, under the guidance of the violin instructor and fellow faculty members, performs on the piano to support the children during violin and voice classes, as well as in rehearsals and performances.

The intern must be an accomplished level pianist with sight reading skills to assist the music instructor and support the violin group and voice classes under minimal supervision. The intern must be organized and rehearse pieces in preparation for class.


Qualifications

*Verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and/or English.

*Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by 2 years college level course work in music history and theory, or 2 years experience with violin/voices piano accompaniment.

*A sensitivity to an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.


Essential Functions and Qualifications

*Sight-read violin and vocal music scores.
*Practice and learn music to performance level.
*Assist in sectional rehearsals when the children are working in smaller groups.
*Be present and play piano accompaniment during the weekly classes/rehearsals for the violin and voice classes.
*Organize materials for the class as needed.
*Collaborate with other related duties as assigned.


Additional Information

The desired start date is February 10, 2024. This is an internship, (Saturdays from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm), a 4-month classified position.

Stipend: $20 per hour.
